Sydney Internationals Preview: We Put A Bunch Of Dots Between the Letters of All the Names so You Can't CTRL+F and Have To Actually Read The Whole Damn Article

Remember last preview article where we said we were ok with you just using CTRL+F to find yourself in the article without actually reading it? Yeah, that was a major lie, it actually hurt our feelings a lot. So to combat this, we are going to put a bunch of dots (Like J..oh.n S.m.Ith) between all the letters in your names so you can't use CTRL+F easily to find yourself. If you decide to use some sort of text editing trick to still use CTRL+F to find yourself, that is perfectly OK, we at the KlingKlang times reward that sort of creative thinking (Otherwise we'd write your names Like JJJJOOOOHHHHNNN SMMMIIITTTHHH or just misspell them and you'd have a much harder time!).

DIFFICULTY RANKING

Before we start talking about the players, let first make an extremely broad predicition about the difficulty of the regional without really thinking about it too much.

/

Now, before you say "Wow, only a 3/5! You're really sleeping on AUS!" you should realize that this rating is totally meaningless. And not just because random difficultly rankings are inherently meaningless either! No this rating is meaningless because I haven't properly established the relative value of a mega kangaskhan versus a Landorus-T. Maybe you're thinking "Oh, it's obvious that it's a simple 1 to 1! 3/5! Riot!" but if I told you that your new haircut was a 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩/10, woould you consider that a perfect score? Hell no! because the shit emoji is understood to not just carry the value of 1, and likewise it's pretty obvious that a Mega Kang is not exactly equal to a Landorus T. So with that in mind, here is the relative weight between Mega Kangs and Landorus-T that is necessary to understand this ranking

=

If you actually calculated the actual difficulty using this, congratulations, you're a frickin nerd

COMPREHENSIVE PREVIEW

For too long, VGC previews have been plagued with totally subjective, and really loosey-goosey preview articles. Not any longer! This article uses a complex deep learning algorithm to predict exactly how many wins every player at this regional will receive in the 8 rounds of swiss. Without Further ado, here are the results!

HUGE LOSERS

Anyone who didn't check in before I wrote this. Come on, why are relying on the last minute check in? You're either working on your team last minute, arrived late, or are just lazy and as a result will have to wake up early and be sleep deprived. Anyway, we think you will do terrible, and you should feel bad.

CREAM OF THE CROP (7+ wins)

These players got really lucky and got high numbers from the random number generator I used to make this article have demonstrated tremendous amounts of success, and will surely be rewarded with a minimum of 7+ wins. Some people whose names I recognize, fix this with a superlative explaining how good they are bigly accomplished players in this group include

Z.uy..ee L.ou [AU]: Ok, we're going to assume this is Z.o..e L..ou, the previous champion of AUS internationals. The fact that our deep learning algorithm chose the previous winner to have 7+ wins this year despite registering under a slightly different name shows just how reliable our system is. If our assumption is wrong then we will publish a correction article that no one will read anyway

Ca..rs.o...n C.o.nf...er [US]: Clearly, the algorithm also takes into account recent success as well, demonstrating how reliable and accurate it is. Ca..rs.on is coming off a nice international finish that I'm too lazy too luck up the exact placing for, so look for him to also finish this event with a solid finish but not quite a solid enough finish for me to remember his exact placing.

G..iov.a.nn.i C..os.t.a [US]: Alright we normally like to rip on the people we put in our preview articles, but G..i..o is amazing for this community and makes great videos so major props to him! We feel a little bad that we probably cursed him with this preview, but I am just a slave to the algorithm, I have to post what it gives me.

N..ich.o.l.as B.i.ng..h.am [AU]: This guy top cut with a magikarp, I don't know what else I have to say. Maybe he'll top cut with another shit mon this year like seedot or tapu fini.

THE BEST OF THE REST (6+ wins)

These players didn't get quite as lucky as the previous group, but perhaps they will benefit from the lack of pressure of not being in the top group. These players could easily make cut if they get just a few breaks that our algorithm couldn't predict and include:

K.iyo.sh.i.ro A.ra.i [JP]: Our first Japanese player, our Algorithm doesn't seem to think Japan is particularly strong at this event, but you can never sleep on Japan!

A..nd.r.ea Di F..ra.nc.es.co [IT]: I feel like I've seen this name before finishing well but I don't remember where. Anyway he's Italian so he is definitely a safe pick to do well at this event

S.im..o.n.e S..a.n.vi.t.o [IT]: Coming off an internationals win, it looks like whoever gibed (gobe? gabe? gobben? idk whatever the past tense of gibe is) him his team this time wasn't quite as good of a teambuilder. In any case, he still is looking at a solid finish and he finished roughly 0.6 points higher in the algorithm than his rival ..Y,,ur.i so thats nice!

Al.e.s.s.io Y,ur.i B.os.c.he.t..to [IT]: Ok I know these rankings mean absolutely nothing but I bet it stings a little to know that you finished 0.6 points behind S..an.v.y

SMART MONEY: Tony Nguyen [AU]

Congratulations Tony! You are the chosen one to bear the cross of the smart money. The good news is that you can actually find your name using CTRL+F quite easily, the bad news is that you must bear the curse of smart money for the entire regional. May God have mercy on your soul!

STUPID MONEY: Nico Davide Cognetta [IT]

In addition to Smart Money, our algorithm also predicts a Stupid Money: The player it believe will finish last in this event. I want to stress that this was not a close call at all, the algorithm is EXTREMELY sure that Nico Davide Cognetta will finish last in this event. The scores range from 0-8, and he received a 0.004, more than 10 times lower than the next lowest player. We don't have any precedent for a Stupid Money Blessing to counteract the Smart Money Curse, but in any case things are looking either really really good for Nico Davide Cognetta or really really bad depending on which superstition you subscribe to.

New Ally Switch Glitch Causes Your Face To Get Punched If You Use It In Live Competition

Columbus, OH - As if Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon haven't been buggy enough already, a new glitch involving the move "Ally switch" has recently been discovered at a local Premier Challenge. The glitch appears to be caused when a player uses the move "Ally switch" at a pivotal point in the game, and the result is that a fist comes crashing into the users face.

Tournament organizers became concerned when they noticed an increase in the number of faces that ended up getting punched, and quickly investigated for the cause of this glitch. The glitch has been found to be exclusive to using "live competition", it has not been observed on battle spot or Pokemon showdown. We reached out to Game Freak about a patch for this glitch but have not received any comment.

It should be noted that the Klinklang times cannot confirm that this observation is actually a glitch, some players believe that it is actually an intentional feature, and hope that it will not be patched out.

Memphis Regionals Preview For You to Ctrl F For Your Name and Then Complain About What We Said About You

It's OK, we realize that you are only reading this article so you can control F for your name and then either complain that we under or overrated you (or omitted you entirely!). We are very mature and can take it, so feel free to roast us on twitter after reading this. Without further ado, here is your Memphis Regionals VGC 2017 preview!

The first name to look out for at memphis is Daravone Souphommanychanh. If there is anyone that is happpy about twitters new name length increase, its Daravone Souphommanychanh. Additionally, Daravone Souphommanychanh benefits most from the new timer, as his opponents will take quite a long time to read his name, giving him a distinct time advantage.

The next biggest player to look out for is Mega Gallade. Apparently upset with his low usage in VGC 2015, Mega Gallade has decided to take matters into his own hands and attend this regional in the flesh. Since we don't expect very many ghosts, birds or fairies to attend this regional, we expect a strong showing from mega gallade but we've been dissappointed by him before. Hopefully he performs better at this regional than he does in our team builder

Some other names to watch out for are Andrew Hart, Avik Purkayastha, Adam Baltrusaitrs, Ben Goff, Cameron Kicak, and Cody Collins. We took these names from the roster at random and figured we would say some nice things about them so they would feel good about themselves. If your name is on this list, then you have above average tastes in music and are probably better looking than average.

Then there are the wild cards Debazit Chakrabarty, Emma Thomas, George Tifverman, James McAnally, Jared Woitalla, and Joshua Pope, these people were also picked at random and copy and pasted into this article, but we arent quite willing to just say unambiguous nice things about these people. Instead, we will give them some ambiguous back handed compliments instead. If your name is on this list, then either you are a pretty cool guy who is also above average at driving, or you smell slightly worse than average.

This section (John Engel) is (Jose Briceno) dedicated to (Justin Burns) people (Logan Mazur) who are (Louis Milich) only mentioned (Mark Elson) briefly inside parenthesis (Matthew Triplett and Max Maier) so that (Micah Stinson) they crtl F (Nate Engstrom) their name and (Nicolas Retzlaff, Pete Schirrick, Rene Alvarenga) get excited (Robert Collier) but then just see (Ryan Heber) their name once (Sandy Martinez) and its only (Sean Bannen) a random (Stephen Mea) parenthetical statement.

Some other names that are either players we expect to do well, or current members of the US senate. (bet you can't even tell the difference!)

Alec Wild

Alex Underhill

Adam Sullivan

Alvin Martinez

Bernie Sanders

Ben Grissmer

Justin Frys

Bill Nelson

Chris Murphy

Max Simon

Mitchell Beyer

Gavin Michaels

Jim Risch

Jake White

Tom Vehlewald

Roger Wicker

Zachery Browning

Ryan Hebert

Look for these people to either place in the top 32 of this event or attempt to shape national policy before the new year! (8 of them are senators btw)

SMART MONEY

as everyone knows, the smart money position is totally cursed, so as I am writing this I am gifted with the extraordinary power to curse any one player to a x-3 at best finish. This is quite a powerful ability, and we have to be careful not to abuse this power. As such, we are picking Dane Zieman as the smart money so that we can be the sacrificial lamb for all you guys' times at memphis, Your're Welcome!

Haha just kidding! As if I would be so selfless! The smart money is on all players who are running lillikoal or pheromosa! Take that losers!

BREAKING NEWS: Robert Mueller Indicts DonaldTrumpVGC For Lying On NPA Sign Ups

Washington D.C. - In yet another shocking turn in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the United States election, Robert Mueller has issued an indictment for DonaldTrumpVGC on 3 counts of lying on his NPA sign up post. This announcement comes on the heels of Michael Flynn's indictment last week.

In the indictment, it is demonstrated that Mr. TrumpVGC claimed to have achieved 3 regional top 16s, but the highest placings actually achieved were 9, 19, and 22, which only accounts for one top 16 finish. In addition to this, it was stated that Mr TrumpVGC claimed to have topped the Showdown Ladder using the account MakeVGCGreatAgain, but it was determined that Mr TrumpVGC did not actually own this account. Additionally, Mr TrumpVGC also claimed to be a "cool dude" while providing absolutely no evidence towards this claim. When asked for comment, Mr TrumpVGC exclaimed "Porco Dio!" and went on to state he never would have gotten indicted if he didn't get crit during questioning from the Mueller Team.

A spokesperson from Mueller's office declined comment

Report: First Team Acronym of VGC 18 Spotted in Secluded Discord Server

(Thanks to @ChuppaVGC for idea)

Cupertino, CA - A potentially ground-breaking story has been developing today as rumors emerge from a secretive Discord server. The server, entitled "VGC 18 Teambuilding, Hentai, and other Weeby shit" has allegedly been throwing around the first known team acronym for VGC 18

A source from inside the discord server, who prefers to remain anonymous, has provided the Klingklang times with grainy images showing some examples usage of the acronym. Though the full acronym has not been observed, researches have concluded that it is of the form "KILL _ _ " where the 'K' stands for "Kangaskhan", the first 'L' stands for "Landorus" and the second L stands for "Literally Anything". The meaning of the 'I', as well as the two other characters, remain unknown. "This could be huge, potentially the next CHALK, or at least the next SMACK Chomp." Said one researcher who has been processing the data. We at the Klingklang times aren't quite willing to make such a bold prediction, but in any case we will keep you posted on this developing story

Other rumors swirl about a new Fini, Arcanine, Kartana and Electric type team being spoken about on this discord server, but we have yet to see any hard evidence of this FAKE news.

As VGC 2018 approaches, many players excited to immediately claim VGC 2017 was better

St Louis, MO - Now that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have been released, excitement abounds with regards to the new VGC format. Amongst all this excitement, perhaps the most powerful excitement comes from one particular group of people: people who will hate VGC 2018 and immediately claim VGC 2017 was better. These people are chomping at the bit, just waiting to claim how superior the previous format was.

"I just can't wait!" Said one excited on-looker. "I had some success in VGC 2017, I top cut 2 out of the 24 PCs I attended, so I consider myself an expert on the format. I just can't wait until VGC 2018 is finally unleashed and I am able to declare how much better VGC 2017 was." Many others echoed this sentiment, citing Landorus-T and lame stuff like Kangaskhan as the main reason for their hatred of the yet unplayed VGC 2018.

"I have yet to play VGC 2018" chimed in another player, "But I know one thing for sure, there is no way it will be as good as 2016, which, totally unrelated, was my first year playing."

NASA: Snowballing to be Impossible by 2035 Due to Climate Change

Houston, TX - Climate change has been a major concern for scientists for decades now, but recent developments show that things are getting worse even quicker than expect. This degradation continues, and earlier this week NASA released a chilling prediction: Snowballing will be impossible by 2035 due to climate change. NASA even went further than this, saying "The first person to finish first in their region and not receive a travel stipend has already been born".

This news has many people terrified, fearing that they will no longer be able to put forth a little bit of effort early and then easily coast to laters events with only marginal results at other events. The report included particularly chilling excerpts such as "Climate change has already done untold damage to the Championship Point structure, but this prediction confirms that the worst is yet to come" it continues to say, "Unpredictable climate has pushed nationals earlier and earlier every year, and in just 10 years the European internationals will be so early that the results won't even matter for the season they are supposed to count for. In just a decade's time there will be no regionals held within 100 miles of the east or west coast of the United States. by 2029, Australia will only have a single sanctioned event, held yearly at the top of Uluru. This is unprecedented, and I fear it may be too late to be stopped"

Others, especially some US politicians, are not swayed by these negative prognostications. One congressman from Alabama laughed off these predictions. In a speech on the house floor, he proclaimed "If climate change is so devastating, then how do you explain this?" as he held up a screenshot from the Pokemon Tournament website. "This image shows that there are 4 midseasons showdowns in the next 9 days in the state of Ohio alone! If climate change is real like those eggheads at NASA seem to believe, then how can this be true?"

NASA, however, quickly rebuked the congressman's argument. In a statement, a spokesperson for NASA stated "Climate change does not mean that every single region will see a decrease in championship points immediately. While climate change may cause an increase in championship points in Ohio, Siberia, and other places no one would ever visit voluntarily, these increases are heavily outweighed by losses in other areas.
